Today we say happy anniversary to the one and only Magic Johnson, who joined the realm of the Twittersphere exactly six years ago today!
What's up everybody! This is Magic and I'm officially on Twitter!
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) February 10, 2011
Over the course of the last six years, Johnson has used his Twitter account to share a number of opinions and thoughts, although many would suggest the stuff Magic was putting out in 140 characters or fewer has been far from magical, whimsical or even insightful. Johnson has been more likely to be dubbed Captain Obvious with some of his opinions being shared on Twitter.
Like, for instance, his take on the NBA Finals last season in which Magic suggested LeBron James and Kyrie Irving may have to play well in order to win a Game 7 of the NBA Finals…
If Cleveland is going to win Game 7, LeBron and Kyrie have to be special like they were in Game 5.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 17, 2016
There was also his reaction where he said the Golden State Warriors were clearly missing a key ingredient…
The Warriors didn't play a smooth game on offense or defense because of the absence of Draymond Green.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 14, 2016
Here are some other brilliant observations from the NBA playoffs last year…
When Steph & Klay are playing great together the Warriors are a hard team to beat.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 11, 2016
With Cleveland's blowout win tonight, the momentum has swung over to the Cavs.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 9, 2016
If the Golden State Warriors don't play better than they did against the Blazers, they will not beat the OKC Thunder.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 13, 2016
Magic’s expert opinion has not been limited to playoff thoughts as you can see from this highly informative tweet about the Lakers in the NBA Draft…
Laker fans all over should be happy with the No. 2 pick because the Lakers will get another really good player.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 18, 2016
This just in! Coaches must coach well in Game 7…
Thunder coach Billy Donovan has to make in-game adjustments in Game 7.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 29, 2016
Hey Magic, why did the Heat beat the Pacers?
The Miami Heat gave a big game effort tonight but the Pacers did not.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) April 12, 2014
What about when it comes time to discuss free agents? Magic thinks teams should pursue some of the best available options, like Kevin Durant…
Laker Nation: The first free agent the Lakers should go after is Kevin Durant.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) May 2, 2016
Also, Chris Paul is pretty good according to Magic…
.@CP3 is the leader and backbone of the Clippers team and it will be hard for them to replace him.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) April 26, 2016
Give Magic credit for nailing this one about Kawhi Leonard during one of Leonard’s performances in the 2014 NBA Finals, where he was awarded MVP…
Mark my words: Kawhi Leonard will one day be a star in the NBA!
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 11, 2014
Polls of all sorts have been criticized as of late, but it’s hard to argue with this one.
If you ran a poll of NBA coaches, I bet all of them would take @KingJames on their team in a heartbeat!
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 29, 2016
Yes, Magic. I’m sure every coach in the league would be more than happy to find some playing time for LeBron James if they had him on their roster. Of course, LeBron can’t do it all alone.
.@KingJames is doing an excellent job getting his teammates involved because he knows they will be key for him to win his 3rd NBA Title.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) November 14, 2015
Injuries to key players? They are bad, according to Magic.
Laker Nation: Pau Gasol is is hurt as well, this is not good for the Lakers.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) December 3, 2013
Speaking of the Lakers, a few years later, Magic did not pull back any punches about the state of the team…
I thought last season was bad because it was the worst in Lakers history. It looks like this season will be the worst in Lakers history.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) March 29, 2016
But Magic is well versed in the sports scene and is not limited to just NBA comments. He also is into his Dodgers…
When Ramirez, Gonzalez and Kemp hit well & Kershaw is pitching like he did tonight, we can beat any team in baseball! #Dodgers
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) June 19, 2014
Dodger Nation: When you can go 7-1on the road that usually means you're a really good team.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) August 9, 2013
OK, let’s go somewhere else. How about college football?
News Flash for College Football: Ohio State and Michigan State are going to be great teams again next season! #Big10
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 13, 2015
Nailed it. The Spartans won the Big 10 and made the College Football Playoff, and the Buckeyes finished 12-1. But for the sake of Magic, let’s not discuss what happened to his alma mater on the football field in 2016.
Magic has touched on the NFL as well. Here is his scouting report for each of the 2016 conference championship games…
Cam Newton led Panthers vs. Carson Palmer led Cardinals & the Patriots led by Tom Brady vs. the Broncos led by Peyton Manning #NFLPlayoffs
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 18, 2016
Finally, we’ll leave you with this gem, which is impossible to argue against…
The only way San Antonio or Miami don't win the championship is if neither team makes the finals.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) March 7, 2014
We are all very much looking forward to what Twitter gems Magic dishes our way in his next year on Twitter. Don’t let us down, Magic!
