Political reporter Chris Cillizza must be shocked that Georgetown fired head coach John Thompson III Thursday after 13 seasons in charge. On quite a few occasions throughout the years Cillizza, a Georgetown alum who currently writes The Fix, a politics blog for the Washington Post, but will be leaving that job in April for a bigger role at CNN, has tweeted about his beloved Hoyas and their recent struggles under Thompson (“JTIII”). While it is no secret that Cillizza has been hoping to see a coaching change at his alma mater, for years he has emphatically rebuffed even the slightest notion that there would even be a possibility that Thompson would ever be fired…
Why couldn't Hoyas go after, say, Archie Miller?
Oh yeah, we still have a coach.

Chant all you want. They will never fire him. https://t.co/deNwl0aIro

Georgetown lost at home on senior day to 'Nova by 26. Finish 14-17 (5-13 in Big East) for the season.
ZERO chance coach is fired. Amazing.

He will not be fired. He would have to resign. https://t.co/ydB2lcoYtL

@DougLife7 The AD was hand-picked by John Jr and JTIII.

JTIII will never be fired.

Georgetown just lost to DePaul at home.
Total disaster.
Chances John Thompson III gets fired? 0%.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) February 23, 2017
If you think JTIII is getting fired after this season, you don't know how the Georgetown program works.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) March 13, 2014
To reiterate a point from last night: If you think JTIII could ever be fired, you don't understand how Gtown hoops works.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) March 23, 2013
John Thompson Jr. made Georgetown basketball — and, in no small part, the University. His son ain't getting fired.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) March 23, 2013
Yes, I know the Hoyas have a systemic problem with the tournament. And, no, JTIII isn't EVER going to get fired.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) March 23, 2013
To people saying JTIII is on hot seat, you don't know much about Gtown. He has that job forever. Literally.
— Chris Cillizza (@TheFix) March 23, 2013
Well Chris, today is your lucky day. Your thoughts?
This is very much the right decisionhttps://t.co/rchLy6XBVq

Go Hoyas.
